  • PM’s insurance scheme for farmers sees poor response in Raj


  • The farmers’ interests to avail Modi government’s flagship scheme Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojna has declined drastically in Rajasthan. A dip of 33 per cent in its coverage has been reported, which is the highest as compared to the other states across the country.



  • Nearly 91.5 lakh farmers were registered under the insurance scheme in 2016-17, which in the following year reached to 60.1 lakh, recording a dip of 33 per cent. Rajasthan is not alone where the crop insurance scheme failed to attract farmers. In Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Kerala, West Bengal etc, the scheme’s coverage has declined. In these states the farmers coverage dipped in lakhs up to 10 lakh while Rajasthan has topped the list with a dip of 3 million farmers in consecutive year of the scheme. It is 33 percent dip against 15 percent insurance coverage average registered nationally.
