  • Plan for green zone at Mt Abu with Centre

  • The state government has sent a fresh proposal to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MOEFCC) to declare an eco-sensitive zone (ESZ) around the Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary.

  • The Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in Aravalli Hill range in the south region of Rajasthan. It has been stated in the proposal that Mount Abu Sanctuary comprising an area of 326.14 sqkm was declared as a sanctuary in 2008. With its comparatively undulating terrain, it provides habitat for the tropical moist deciduous plant species and ever green species found at higher altitudes which form micro habitat for the Aravalli red spur fowl, grey jungle fowl and several other species of flora and fauna.

The sanctuary is unique as it forms the distribution limit for many species that have moved from the Himalayas. Mount Abu is one of the richest sanctuaries from the biodiversity point. Nearly 42 species of reptiles, six species of amphibians, 16 species of fishes, 72 species of medicinal plants, 127 species of birds and 675 species of plants have been identified.
